"Raised in a family with generations of roots in Pasadena, I understand both the pride and the pressures facing our neighborhoods today."
In my work as a Housing Navigator with Union Station Homeless Services, I help individuals and families move from housing instability into safe, stable homes. As a Crisis Interventionist, I support residents during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. These experiences have given me a clear, firsthand understanding of what our community needs and where the system is falling short.
I believe leadership starts with listening and is built through action, accountability, and collaboration. I'm committed to bringing people together, strengthening community partnerships, and making sure every resident in District 3 feels seen, heard, and represented.
I'm running for City Council to deliver practical, results-driven solutions.
Erica Muñoz's story is Pasadena's story — one of resilience, sacrifice, hard work, and hope.
A lifelong Pasadena resident, Erica's journey began in District 3, where she attended Hodges Head Start, Jefferson Elementary, Marshall Fundamental, and later John Muir High School. As a teenage mother at 15 years old, Erica faced challenges that could have easily ended her educational journey. Instead, she took advantage of the teen parent daycare program at John Muir and continued fighting for a better future for herself and her growing family.
After stepping away from school, Erica returned to education at 24 years old as a mother of four children. She enrolled at the Pasadena City College Extension Center to earn her GED before continuing at the main PCC campus, where she ultimately earned her high school diploma. Determined to keep moving forward, Erica stayed at Pasadena City College and earned her Associate's Degree in Administration of Justice, graduating as valedictorian of her class.
Her educational journey continued at University of California, Irvine, where Erica moved her entire family, her husband and four children, into campus family housing while pursuing her Bachelor's Degree in Criminology, Law and Society, along with a minor in Chicano/Latino Studies. During her time at UCI, Erica welcomed her fifth child before beginning her graduate studies.
Erica's commitment to Pasadena goes far beyond her own story. She raised her children in Pasadena schools, including Hamilton Elementary School, McKinley School, and Pasadena High School. Today, her grandchildren also attend McKinley and previously attended Odyssey Charter Schools before the campus was lost in the Eaton Fire.
Professionally, Erica has dedicated her life to serving vulnerable youth and families. She has worked as a mental health counselor in group home settings and with Transitional Age Youth (TAY), helping young people facing trauma, instability, and barriers to success. She has also facilitated workshops for the City of Pasadena's ROSE Program, supporting community education and empowerment.
From 2014 to 2016, Erica served as the Lead Community Violence Interrupter for the City of Pasadena, working directly in neighborhoods impacted by violence to build trust, de-escalate conflicts, and connect residents to resources and support.
Erica's life experience gives her a deep understanding of the struggles many Pasadena families face: housing instability, access to education, public safety, youth opportunity, and economic survival. Her campaign is rooted in the belief that every resident deserves to be seen, heard, and supported, no matter where they start in life.
Today, Erica is running for Pasadena City Council District 3 to bring lived experience, compassion, and community-driven leadership to City Hall.
I'm running for City Council because District 3 is home. I've walked these streets, worked with our families, supported our youth, and stood with residents during some of the toughest moments our community has faced. I want to make sure District 3 gets the attention, investment, and respect it deserves.
In District 3, we're feeling the pressure. Rising rents, overcrowding, and families worried about being pushed out of the neighborhoods they've called home for generations. Through my work in housing and homelessness, I've helped people navigate these challenges firsthand. I will fight for more affordable housing, stronger tenant protections, and real pathways to stability so our residents aren't forced to leave the community they helped build.
Our young people in District 3 have so much potential, but too often they don't have access to the same opportunities as other areas. I've worked directly with at-risk youth here in our community, creating programs that open doors and change lives. I want to expand after-school programs, mentorship, job training, and safe spaces so our youth have somewhere to go, something to do, and someone who believes in them.
District 3 has a strong and proud senior community, but many are struggling to keep up with rising costs and access the services they need. I will advocate for more senior-focused resources, affordable housing options, and programs that reduce isolation and keep our seniors connected. They deserve to age with dignity right here in the community they helped shape.
I'm not coming into this from the outside. I've been here, doing the work, listening, and showing up. District 3 deserves someone who understands the struggles and is ready to fight for real solutions.
